New York Society Balls

About

A guide to the
Manhattan calendar

New York Society Balls is a curated guide to the white tie and black tie balls held in Manhattan each season.

The Manhattan ball calendar runs from the autumn benefits and heritage society dinners through the debutante season of late winter, with charitable galas threaded throughout. Yet much of it has remained difficult to find — invitations circulate by mail, host organizations maintain modest websites, and the public-facing record exists mostly in the photo galleries of the previous year's editions.

This site began as a small calendar kept for personal reference and grew into a guide for everyone who has ever wondered when a particular ball is held, what its dress code is, or how one might attend. Most of the events here are produced by independent organizations the site has no connection to. A few are events I'm personally involved in producing, separately from the site, and they're covered by the same standards as everything else.

Listings are gathered from host organizations directly, from public announcements, and from the kindness of attendees who write in with details. Errors are inevitable; corrections are welcome.

What this site is for

For those wishing to attend a public ball, the listings here point you to the host organization, where tables and tickets are arranged. For those interested in the heritage society balls — by-invitation evenings restricted to descendants or members — each event page describes the path to membership and attendance, where one exists.

For those who simply enjoy reading about a New York that still puts on tailcoat and white waistcoat for the orchestra, you are welcome here too.

Submissions and corrections

If your organization holds a white tie or black tie ball in Manhattan that should be listed, or if you spot an error in an existing listing, please write to us. New listings and corrections are reviewed manually and added with care.
